Established in 1980 and home of the original Schooner Night, Sgt. Prestons is located in the last remaining building in the historic John Purdue block. This restaurant has it all - a fun, casual atmosphere (complete with a giant moose head mounted on the wall and canoe suspended from the ceiling) friendly service, good food and drinks, and an awesome outdoor patio.
We started out with the Spinach & Artichoke Dip served with crusty French bread slices. Youll never go wrong ordering this creamy homemade dip. Yummo! Next up was a lovely garden salad with fresh mushrooms, radishes, cucumbers, tomatoes, and topped with their homemade poppy seed dressing. Im a bit of a salad snob, and a good dressing makes all the difference. I would love to try one of their large salads on my next visit.
We also sampled the Preston Burger with sweet/sour slaw and the Breaded Tenderloin with steak fries. Sgt. Prestons tenderloins are hand cut and breaded in-house, nicely seasoned, and large enough to split between two people. The Preston Burger was well-prepared and the sweet/sour slaw was one of the better slaws Ive had.
Sgt. Prestons is also known for their specialty drinks: Bloody Marys (homemade mix), Greyhounds and Screwdrivers with freshly squeezed juice. They offer a free appetizer buffet on Friday nights and live music on Saturday nights. Summer events and entertainment are posted on Facebook, and theres free parking in the garage across the street on nights and weekends.
