Some places don't just serve great food... they serve Indiana history
Long before it became one of Indiana's most beloved seafood restaurants, The Oyster Bar began life in 1888 as a neighborhood saloon on South Calhoun Street in downtown Fort Wayne. Through Prohibition, the Great Depression, changing owners, and generations of loyal guests, the building has remained a gathering place for the community.
The restaurant officially became The Oyster Bar in 1954, when oysters were added to the menu, beginning a tradition that continues today. Since then, countless celebrations, first dates, anniversaries, and family dinners have taken place within its historic walls.
Today, owners Tony and Kara West are honoring that rich heritage while adding their own chapter to this Fort Wayne landmark. The restaurant continues to pair fresh seafood, handcrafted cocktails, and warm hospitality with more than 135 years of history.
As we celebrate America 250, we're also celebrating the hometown businesses that have stood the test of time. The Oyster Bar is more than a restaurant—it's a living piece of Indiana's food story.
