Chateau Thomas Winery, Plainfield
November 4, 2014 - General -
What does an Indiana winery have to do with a Doctor, the Oscars and the Playboy golf tournament? Well, Dr. Charles Thomas founded Chateau Thomas Winery in Plainfield, Indiana just outside of Indianapolis. Dr. Thomas practiced medicine for many years and started out as a home wine maker because he liked the history and the chemical aspects to wine over the years he created a business and expanded to what it is today. The winery was made famous when he developed his Slender wines that have no fat, no glycemic index register and no carbs, it became so famous that they passed it out at the Oscars in 2012 and at the Playboy Golf Tournament that same year. Its the only wine of its kind in the world!
There is a wide selection of wines available at the winery and you are able to taste them before you buy them if youd like, in their tasting room. Their best seller is their Sweet Aubergine, a sweet red wine with lush fruity berry and plum flavors. When you visit be sure to ask how Dr. Thomas came up with this name, the story is very interesting. Some other wines Dr. Thomas recommended were the Chardonnay-Carneros which is aged in French oak with aromas of pineapple, pear and baked apple and the Un-Oaked Chardonnay which is from the Caneron with flavors of pineapple, pear and mango with a long, complex finish.
If you visit on a Friday night from June to September be sure to check out their outdoor entertainment and food events. They also have a great meeting room above the tasting room that can hold about 180 people. Be sure to think of them for your next event. Wouldnt it be great to incorporate a tasting into your event? If you like Chateau Thomas Winery Wines be sure to visit their other tasting rooms in Nashville, Bloomington and Fishers and also you might want to give Dr. Thomas sons winery a try, the Thomas Family Winery in Madison (also an Indiana Foodways Alliance member).
