Mayberry Cafe, Danville

November 4, 2014 - General -

Looking for a blast from the past or a place to go to get away from it all? Why dont you visit the Mayberry Café in Danville, IN where all your favorites; Andy, Barney, Opie, Goober, Aunt Bee, Gomer, Earnest T, Clara, Thelma Lou and more can be viewed on the Andy Griffith Show reruns playing all day, every day in this Andy Griffith Show themed restaurant on the square. They even have a squad car and have fun contests like an annual Opie look alike contest and the Tuesday night Goober hat night. No the show wasnt set in Danville or even in Indiana but the owners favorite TV show has always been the Andy Griffith Show and he and his wife has made a very comfortable, homey, country like restaurant, almost like you are walking into Andys house.

At the Mayberry Café, you will find things just like mom used to make (or in my case much better than mom used to make, sorry mom). Aunt Bees Fried Chicken is my favorite, the chicken is so moist and juicy and the breading is crispy and tasty but the best thing is- no bones. I hate eating around bones when I eat fried chicken I always feel like I waste a lot or am picking pieces of bones out of my mouth. Perfect Fried Chicken! They also have a great salad bar and mashed potatoes! For those of you that dont like fried chicken you might want to try their Meatloaf or Andys Tenderloin (served breaded or grilled). My favorite when Im not getting the Fried Chicken is the Alfredo Primavera though. Its garden vegetables and steaming pasta tossed in a cheese and cream sauce and served with garlic bread. Yum! And dont forget the Mac and Cheese Wedges for an appetizer! Its mac and cheese that is breaded and deep-fried, what could be better? Oh, I know, watching Andy Griffith reruns while you eat, that would make it better. Well, they have that covered too!

Go take a stroll down memory lane and grab a bite to eat at the Mayberry Café! Be sure to wear your Goober Hat!
