March 14, 2016 - General -
In Honor of National PI Day 3.14, Indiana Foodways Alliance and Randolph County Tourism, would like to announce the winner of our National "PIE" Day Facebook Contest held on January 23, 2016, honoring our Hoosier Pie Trail. The winner was Lori Joseph of Center Point, Indiana, winning a case of Wick's Pies compliments of Randolph County Tourism.
Lori shared a wonderful story about Wick's Pie Company located in Winchester, Indiana and her childhood memory to win the contest.
"Growing up as a kid in Indiana about every 6 months, on a Saturday morning, my parents would load us in the car and drive to the Wick's Pie Factory. My parents would buy 10 - 15 Sugar Crème Pies (the seconds that had a broken crust). Then, every other Sunday, my Dad would cook and dessert was the Sugar Crème Pie! Good memories! Thanks!" Mr. Fleener recalls " The journeys to Wick's Pie began in 1962. It was a special Sunday when we had Wick's Pies."
On Friday, March 4, 2016, Scottie Harvey, Executive Director of Visit Randolph County, and Indiana Foodways Alliance presented Mrs. Lori Joseph and her parents, Mr. Paul and Mrs. Mary Fleener, of Speedway, Indiana, with a case of Wick's Pies. They each recalled the warm memories of those days of yesteryear with their family and fond memories of Wick's Pie Company.
Thank you Lori Joseph and Mr. and Mrs. Fleener for sharing your cherished family memories with all of us. An entire list of the Hoosier Pie Trail can be found at http://www.indianafoodways.com/Trail/6/Hoosier-Pie/
