What started as a vision turned into a labor of love when Rachel and Nathan Schermerhorn purchased the barn in Rome City, Indiana in 2012. A year before the restoration process began in 2012, the barn was listed as one of the top 10 most endangered historical landmarks in Indiana. With support from the community, family and friends, the mission to transform the barn to Sylvan Cellars Event Center was underway. Staying in line with the rustic style and atmosphere of the barn while adding a touch of elegance, the space is equipped with 30-foot high gabled ceilings, chandeliers and the original salvaged stained wood floors. The barn officially opened for business as an event center in Spring 2015, then opened the Tasting Room in January 2016.

The much-anticipated Tasting Room opened at Sylvan Cellars in January 2016 featuring a vast selection of handcrafted cocktails, craft beer, wine and an extensive Whiskey selection. Wine, beer and cocktail enthusiasts alike can choose from 18 craft beers on tap as well as 2 draft cocktails, select craft beer bottles, a wide selection of craft cocktails, and a worldly collection of wines. Don’t forget about domestic beer and well drinks, we simply provide something for all different palates. Specialty cocktails are available like our lovely, local Lavender Lane cocktail or our expertly crafted Old Fashioned or Manhattan (always using the best ingredients possible) as well as our own twist to the worldwide Moscow Mule and so much more! We continue to strive to support local businesses with partnering with them to secure local, fresh ingredients for craft cocktails as well as all fresh juices & syrups made in house (which are also available for sale to take home and enjoy from home).

Indoors or outdoors on patio! Come visit for brunch on Sundays from 10AM-1PM or enjoy some live music indoors or under the stars. Don't forget about all the tasty options from our kitchen, including our local favorite, Jim's Pizza. Wednesday's are reserved for a special menu from Gropp's Fish. YUM!
